Labiaplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure that aims to decrease the size of the labia minora (inner tissues of the female genitalia) so that it is flush with the labia majora (outer part of the female genitalia).
This procedure offers several different surgical techniques, depending on the patient's specific situation. The trim procedure is the most widely used, in which the excess part of the labia minora is removed. The wedge procedure removes a partial thickness wedge of tissue from the thickest part of the labia minora. There are several other techniques for reducing the labia minora, which can be discussed with Dr. Camp.
Why Consider Labiaplasty?
There are a host of reasons females have enlarged labia, including childbirth, aging, sexual activity and genetics. Many females who suffer from an enlarged labia experience difficulty with exercise, hygiene, urinary tract infections, sexual activity, and other physical activity.
Most women undergo this surgery to reduce pain or irritation. Others want to enhance their youthful look after childbirth or aging.
What to Expect
The procedure can usually be performed within an hour, under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on your treatment plan. Because the female genital region is very sensitive, proper care will need to be followed after surgery.
